The Shelbyville Dragons varsity football team improved their season record to 3-1 with a lopsided 61-0 win over the KIPP Generations Collegiate Jaguars. KIPP (1-3) is a public charter high school from the Houston area.

The Dragons scored early and often and they scored all 61 of their points in the first half. Senior runningback Adaybran Davis scored the Dragons first touchdown with a 88 yard opening kickoff return for a touchdown to start the contest. Tim Mason added his first of many extra points kicks to give Shelbyville a 7-0 lead with 11:48 left in the opening quarter. The Jaguars first offensive drive stalled and they punted the ball back to SHS with 9 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Dragons junior wide receive Frandrydric Buckley scored on a 30-yard touchdown reception from sophomore quarterback TJ Barnes which helped give his team a 14-0 lead with 7:41 left in the first stanza. Barnes found Buckley again with 5:16 left in the first period for a score which put Shelbyville up 21-0. Sophomore safety Dylan Parker intercepted a Jaguars pass and returned it for a touchdown which gave the Dragons a 29-0 advantage with 3:05 still left in the opening frame. Senior runningback Zay Cartwright exploded for a 62-yard touchdown run with only 40 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Shelbyville took a 36-0 lead into the second quarter. Just 13 seconds into the frame, Buckley scored again this time on a 50-yard reception which gave the Dragons a 42-0 advantage with 11:47 left in the second quarter. Shelbyville would go on to get additional scores from Cartwright, Davis, and Andrew Risinger during the remainder of the first half. This allowed them to take a comfortable 61-0 lead into the midway intermission.

Neither team scored during the second half as the fans saw a running clock and plenty of substitutions in a fast moving second half of play.

The Dragons will begin District 11 2A play next Friday, September 23, 2022 as they travel to Joaquin for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Rams Stadium. The Rams are 2-1 and had a bye week this Friday.
