On Tuesday, the Shelbyville Dragons moved their District 23 2A varsity baseball mark to 10-0, with an 11-1 win over the visiting Timpson Bears. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cole Ferguson blasted a three-run homer over the left-centerfield fence which ended the contest due to the league’s 10-run-mercy-rule.

Timpson kept the game close through the early and middle stages. The Bears led 1-0 in the top of the first frame but the Dragons tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning when Trevor Wilburn scored aided by a throwing error. Timpson committed five errors during the contest.

The teams went into the bottom half of the fourth inning with Shelbyville still just leading 2-1. A big rally soon gave the Dragons the advantage they needed as they ballooned their lead to 8-1, using 3 errors, 3 hits and a walk during the inning. On the day, the Dragons used 7 hits and five free bases to gain the ten-point win.

Junior Dragons’ pitcher Zach Clark helped keep the Bears off the base paths late. He recorded three of his 12 strikeouts during the final two frames. The only Bear to reach base in the fifth and sixth innings was Caden Soloman who legged out a mishandled grounder by a Dragons infielder.

Shelbyville is currently atop the District 23 leaderboard with a 10-0 mark. They are 12-4 for the season.

The Dragons will host the Martinsville Pirates at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Shelbyville High School.

Timpson is currently in fifth place. They will regroup to travel to Martinsville on Saturday, April 13, 2019, for a 6 p.m. game with the Pirates.
