Dragons Take 12-0 Run District 23 Home Baseball Win Over Bears on Senior Night

The Shelbyville Dragons won a District 23 2A baseball game over the visiting Timpson Bears on Tuesday by a 12-0 score in a run-rule shortened contest that ended when senior shortstop/pitcher Dylan Parker hit a towering grand slam homerun over the left centerfield fence in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shelbyville stands at 17-4 overall and 12-1 in the conference. They have cliched the district title. Timpson is at 13-12 overall and they have a 4-9 conference mark. They are out of playoff contention.

The game was close early. Shelbyville took a 2-0 run lead in the bottom of the first inning when Parker and Hunter Harvey scored after a single, up the middle of the infield, by Weston Frick. The Dragons held the narrow 2-0 lead until they rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning. SHS brought 13 batters to the plate in a rally which saw them use 4 walks, four hits, including Parker’s grand slam, two errors, and a passed ball to score ten runs during the inning.

Shelbyville’s Weston Frick pitched the bulk of the game and struck out six batters, walked three and gave up one hit in four innings. Dragon Cam Mason struck out one, walked one, and gave up a hit in one inning.

Timpson’s Seth Duke pitched 4 1/3 innings striking out 4 batters, walked one, and gave up five hits. Nathan Searcy gave up four hits and four walks in 2/3 inning.

Before the game Shelbyville recognized senior athletes Dylan Parker, Weston Frick, Wyatt Frick and Cam Mason.

The Bears will host the Dragons at Bears Ballpark on Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m. for the final district game for both teams.
