Dragons Take Lopsided Game 1 Baseball Win Over Bulldogs 18-1

Central Pollok High School on Thursday, May 6, 2021 –

The Shelbyville Dragon’s Varsity Baseball Team won the first game of a Texas UIL Bi-District Elimination best-of-three game series with the Colmesneil Bulldogs. Shelbyville in 14-10-1 and they are the third-place team from District 23 Class 2A. Colmesneil is 8-6-1 and they are the second-place representative of District 24 2A.

The Dragons scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning with double from Grady Clay and Dylan Robbins doing much of the damage.

Dragon Trey Smith struck out the first two Bulldog batters to help Shelbyville set down the Bulldogs in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the first frame. Smith would eventually pitch the whole five inning of the contest and he struck out 11 batters on the day.

The end of the third inning saw SHS lead 11-0. After three complete frames the Dragons led 16-1.

Shelbyville finished the day with a 18-1 win. They allowed only two hits and two free bases. They committed a single error in the field.

The Dragons were able to capitalize on two Bulldogs errors. They accumulated 17 hits for the day and walked 9 times. Bulldog’s pitching teamed up for only four strikeouts for the day.

The Dragons went on to win Game 2 by a 3-1 score on Saturday. They will next move on to the Area round of the playoffs with details being released later this week.
