December 16, 2021 - We see each other often. We pass each other on the streets. We breathe the same air. We all bleed the same color blood. We’re sisters, brothers, moms, and dads, etc. We are all human with human frailties. We all have different diseases. Some can be controlled with medications; some are fatal. We all look at each other and our hearts hurt for the ones that have a fatal disease. We put each others in our prayers.
There is an epidemic or pandemic out there that most people chose to ignore; look down their noses at; and sometimes cross the street to not have to speak to us. Everyone looks at this disease (and it is a disease) as something we can simply stop and end this illness right in its tracks. Our disease is just as bad as cancer and like cancer it can kill us or go into remission for a month up to double digit years, or it could easily kill us. This disease like cancer is either passed off as they’re scum, low income sorry people, or that family has always been that way. They may be close on the last part. This disease (just like cancer) is genetically inclined and can be handed down from members of a family to others members of the family. This disease doesn’t look at how much money you make are who you are. You can be a preacher, teacher, lawyer, judge or that you barely have a penny to your name. We all need to reach out to these people as if it were cancer. I do know that if I had not gotten help when I did, I wouldn’t be here today. This disease is just as bad as cancer and most likely more prevalent.
I’m pretty sure when growing up everyone had a dream of what they wanted to be someday. I promise you without a doubt not one person dreamed they would be an alcoholic or an addict. To believe they would ever lose family, friends, jobs, home and most important themselves.
We are people like you. We have dreams just as you do. We never dreamed our lives would go the direction they did. The disease (ask your doctor about it) took everything that was us away. Without being judged, without your love, we will end up in our graves way earlier than we should.
So the next time you put a label on an addict or alcoholic think twice; it could and may still have just as easily been you or someone in your family. Do you really just want to sit back and watch yourself or family member die a long hard slow death alone.
Anyone that is an addict or alcoholic started out being hurt so badly that they could not bare the pain, so, they found the only thing they could do to just be numb and not feel for just a little while.
Do Not Judge!
Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is here to help but only if you are sick and tried of being sick and tired. If you want a chance at getting back some of what you have lost, you will have to be ready to do the work. Addiction didn’t happen over night.
We are ready to help you break those chains.
Meetings are held at St. Johns Episcopal Church Annex., Hwy. 96 South, as you leave intersection - bottom of first hill - you will see our sign, turn left. We will be at the top of the hill in the pines. Until our group grows and it will, we are having meetings Saturday night 6:30pm to 7:30pm. But by any chance you need us any time, please, please fill free to call (936) 332-9044 and leave your message on machine. Will get back to you ASAP.
I would like to thank Shelby County Today for giving us this chance to get this message out.
This is the first time NA has been available in Center, TX.
