East Texas Beekeeping 101 Course Coming to Overton

August 27, 2025 - Curious about beekeeping or thinking of starting your first hive? The Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Overton will host East Texas Beekeeping 101 on Friday, September 12, 2025, offering a full day of beginner-friendly training on the basics of raising and managing honeybees.

The program begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. and runs through lunch. Designed for beginners and early-stage beekeepers, the seminar will provide essential instruction on bee biology, behavior, and management, as well as practical steps for getting started in beekeeping. Participants will also learn what a typical year in beekeeping looks like and gain valuable experience through a session on hive inspections and varroa mite management—a critical skill for maintaining healthy colonies.

To sweeten the day, attendees will enjoy a lunch and honey tasting to experience the flavors that make beekeeping such a rewarding endeavor.
