Fillies Complete Sweep of Lee College Tournament

September 19, 2016 - The 7th ranked Panola College Fillies continued their winning ways, going undefeated this weekend and taking home three tournament superlatives at the Lee College Invitational. Ana Oliviera was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while Rachel Henderson and Cayman Sutton were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Fillies faced off against 14th ranked San Jacinto College in the first match of the weekend, taking them down in four sets (20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21). Freshman right side Jaqueline da Silva led the charge with 13 kills, sophomore outside Ana Oliviera added 11, and sophomore middle blocker Rachel Henderson added 8. Freshman setter Cayman Sutton picked up 23 assists, and Kinly Carter added 20 of her own. Ana Oliviera led the team in digs with 16 and sophomore libero Morgan Currie added 14. Rachel Henderson and freshman right side Kaitlyn Adams were a force at the net, combining for 5 total blocks.
 
In their second match of the day, PC swept host Lee College (25-18, 25-16, 26-16). Panola once again utilized a balanced offensive attack with 5 players picking up 6 or more kills. Ana Oliveira led with 10, Rachel Henderson added 9, sophomore outside Victoria Baptista and freshman right side Kaitlyn Adams picked up 7 apiece, and freshman middle blocker Barbara Sabino and Jaqueline da Silva combined for 12 kills. Freshman setter Kinly Carter dished out 21 assists and Cayman Sutton added 19. Defensively, Ana Oliviera led with 9 digs while Morgan Currie and Victoria Baptista added 8 apiece. 
 
The Fillies opened Day 2 in Baytown defeating Midland College in 4 (25-21, 25-27, 25-15, 25-23). Ana Oliveira led with 15 kills, Barbara Sabino added 7, and the trio of Victoria Baptista, Kaitlyn Adams, and Rachel Henderson combined for 18 kills recording 6 each. Cayman Sutton and Kinly Carter combined for 45 assists, 25 and 20 respectively. Libero Morgan Currie anchored the defense with 11 digs, Cayman Sutton tallied her season high in digs with 10, and Victoria Baptista added 9.

In their final match of the weekend, Panola took down Victoria College in three sets (25-19, 25-13, 25-7). Offensively, Rachel Henderson led with 12 kills, Kaitlyn Adams added 7, and Ana Oliveira and Barbara Sabino tallied 6 each. Cayman Sutton dished out 22 assists and Kinly Carter added 17. Morgan Currie and freshman defensive specialist Camie Copeland led the defense with 12 digs each.
 
Panola College Volleyball improves to 14-2  on the year and will return to Region XIV North action Saturday when they travel to TVCC to take on the Lady Cardinals at 2 pm
