Forest Service Waives Day-use Fees for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 9, 2024 - In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is waiving day-use fees on January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Martin Luther King, Jr. was a pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement, and his leadership inspired men and women, young and old, in this nation and around the world,” said Kimpton Cooper, Forest Supervisor for the National Forests and
Grasslands in Texas. “Monday, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his message of equality, love, and service.”

Camping fees remain in effect, but day-use fees are waived at these recreation areas and trails:

  • Angelina National Forest – Boykin Springs, Caney Creek, and Townsend.
  • Sabine National Forest – Haley’s Ferry, East Hamilton, Indian Mounds, Lakeview, and Willow Oak.
  • Davy Crockett National Forest – Ratcliff Lake.
  • Sam Houston National Forest: Cagle Boat Ramp, Scotts Ridge Boat Ramp.
  • Caddo and Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands: Coffee Mill Lake, Black Creek Lake, and East Lake Crockett.

Other fee-free days are National Get Outdoors Day, Juneteenth Day, National Public Lands Day, and Veterans Day.
