June 11, 2025 – In celebration of National Get Outdoors Day on Saturday, June 14, the U.S. Forest Service will waive day-use fees at recreation sites across the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas. This initiative encourages the public to explore the outdoors and enjoy the health benefits of nature.
“National Get Outdoors Day is a perfect opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of outdoor activities,” said Kimpton Cooper, forest supervisor for the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas. “Whether it’s hiking, biking, fishing, or simply enjoying a picnic, we hope everyone takes the time to appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the nature around you.”
What to Expect:
From hiking trails to picnic spots and scenic views, these areas provide opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature.
Plan Your Visit:
- Pack it in, pack it out: Help keep our public lands clean by taking all trash with you.
- Know Before You Go: Summer weather can vary, so stay prepared by monitoring weather where you plan to visit.
- Dress for the Outdoors: sturdy footwear, light color clothing/breathable, hat and shades
- Respect wildlife: Observe animals from a distance and follow all posted guidelines.
Please note that overnight camping and other fees for amenities, such as boat launches, may still apply.
Fee Free Day Use at the following recreation areas:
- Angelina National Forest – Boykin Springs, Caney Creek, and Townsend.
- Sabine National Forest – Haley’s Ferry, East Hamilton, Indian Mounds, Lakeview, and Willow Oak.
- Davy Crockett National Forest – Ratcliff Lake.
- Sam Houston National Forest - Cagle Boat Ramp, Scotts Ridge Boat Ramp.
- Caddo and Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands - Coffee Mill Lake, Black Creek Lake, and East Lake Crockett.
