November 7, 2015 CARTHAGE - Locals will have two opportunities to support 16-year-old Hunter LaGrone on his road to recovery.
Denny’s in Carthage will host a benefit for Hunter between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, November 12. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of all sales to LaGrone in an effort to show the community’s support after the young man nearly lost his life in an October wreck with a train.
Additionally, family and friends have organized a benefit Trail Ride and auction for LaGrone beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, November 21, in the Deadwood community. Organizers said the ride will begin at Dale LaGrone’s RV Park, 272 PR 848, Carthage, TX. 75633.
Donations of items for the auction are greatly appreciated, and anything is accepted. Those who are interested in donating an item, and for more information can contact Genia Clabaugh at 903-690-4808, Troy Jones at 903-926-0322, or Lisa McPherson 903-754-6322.
Since his wreck, LaGrone has had six surgeries to repair broken bones. Surgeons have planned a seventh surgery for Friday, Nov. 6. LaGrone’s mother, Renee LaGrone Metcalf, said her son lost a front tooth, fractured his right and left hands and his left arm, and crushed his right leg, ankle and foot.
She said the family thanks God for sparing Hunter’s life when on Monday, October 19, he was driving south on South Shelby and was temporarily blinded by the sun and failed to slow-down in time to stop for the train. The force of the impact threw LaGrone to the bed of his truck where emergency personnel found him. LaGrone was transported by helicopter to ETMC-Tyler where he remains in stable condition. LaGrone is a sophomore at Carthage High School.
