Garden Chefs Culinary/Gardening Camp for Youth

May 25, 2026 — The Shelby County 4-H Youth Development Program is excited to announce the upcoming Garden Chefs Culinary/Gardening Camp, a hands-on educational experience designed for youth ages 8–18.

This engaging camp combines gardening, cooking, nutrition, and teamwork in a fun and interactive environment.

The camp will be held June 23–26, 2026, from 9am to 1pm at the Shelby County Extension Office. Registration fee $30. Registration Deadline: June 15, 2026.

Participants will explore where their food comes from by planting and caring for their own mini gardens, harvesting fresh ingredients, preparing healthy recipes, and basic water bath canning. Throughout the program, youth will develop essential life skills including kitchen safety, teamwork, and leadership.

A highlight of the camp is the 4-H Food Challenge Competition, where youth teams will create and present a dish using a mystery set of ingredients. This activity mirrors the Texas 4-H Food Challenge and helps participants build confidence in public speaking, problem-solving, and creativity.

“This camp is a great opportunity for youth to connect agriculture with everyday life while learning practical cooking skills,” said Feleshia Thompson, County Extension Agent – Family and Community Health. “We want participants to leave with confidence in the kitchen, an understanding of nutrition, and an appreciation for how food is grown.”

Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
