July 8, 2016 - HOUSTON - Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Press Release - Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center was asked and has fulfilled a request to provide units to Dallas to support those injured in Thursday night’s shootings.
The Blood Center sent units of O-negative red cells Friday morning. O-negative is the universal blood type, and is used for transfusions in trauma situations.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of the tragic shootings in Dallas,” said Brian Gannon, Chief Executive Officer of The Blood Center. "Due to the generosity of our Gulf Coast donors, we were able to provide blood to Dallas this morning for those affected in this tragedy. The need for blood is constant, so we’d like everyone to know their donations will be saving lives of patients locally, as well as those in need on a national level when it is called upon.”
The Blood Center is greatly encouraging eligible donors to give at this time to increase the blood supply so it can help those in need of donations locally first, then extend support to Dallas if requested again.
