JJE Gibson Chapter Children of the Republic of Texas

April 9, 2019 - At the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Convention in 1929 the members voted to sponsor an organization to be known as the Children of the Republic of Texas. DRT Chapters throughout the state would sponsor local chapters.

Membership in the CRT is open to young people under 21 who have a direct ancestor in Texas prior to February 19, 1846. The purpose of the CRT, like that of the DRT, is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas, encourage the study of Texas History, stimulate historical research into the earliest records of Texas, promote the celebration of Texas Honor Days, revere the Texas flag, and to cherish and preserve Texas, one and indivisible, as achieved by the fathers and mothers of the Texas Revolution.

Shortly after the William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas was chartered in November of 1996, the members began preparations for a chapter for their children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews; the children of Texas. In April 1999 the JJE Gibson Chapter of the Children of the Republic of Texas was born. Membership in the Chapter varies as members age out at twenty one, but the chapter has received six new members during the past few months and is looking to grow even more. CRT sponsors for the new year are Carrie Agnew and Heather Walker and they are looking forward to a good year for the Chapter.

Members of the JJE Gibson Chapter will assist at the William Carroll Crawford meeting this Saturday as the parent chapter meets to elect and install officers.

March 1 has been declared CRT Founders Day, one of the DRT Honor Days, and the William Carroll Crawford Chapter proudly celebrated this day on March 1; the beginning ofTexas History month.
