The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team defeated the visiting Woden Eagles 11-1 during a District 23 2A conference game on Thursday. The game was originally planned for Tuesday but was moved due to inclement weather.

Joaquin held Woden scoreless until the later stages of the contest which ended in the top of the fifth inning due to the league’s 10-run mercy rule.

With the game scoreless the Rams rallied to go ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Woden scored their only run in the top of the fourth frame to pull to within 5-1.

A rally during the bottom of the fourth saw JHS bring 14 batters to the plate and six runners scored to give them the ten-point margin needed to end the game early.

Rams Bennett Anglin, Malik Stotts and Kaleb Brooks each hit safely twice to help in the win. Anglin pitched five innings and struck out five Eagles batters.

Joaquin had 7 hits and 11 free bases. Woden hit safely four times and walked 3 times.

Each Joaquin and Woden have a 1-1 conference mark. Garrison, Timpson and Shelbyville are tied and leading the district with a 2-0 mark currently.

The Rams will travel to Shelbyville on Friday, March 18, 2022 for another District 23 game at Dragons Ballpark. JV action is slated for 4:30 p.m. and Varsity play for 6:30 p.m.
