Joaquin Student and Teacher Honored by VFW

Joaquin HS-4, Post Sr. Vice Newton Johnson, Jr. presented Annalyn her plaque and check.March 23, 2016 - On Tuesday, March 22nd members of Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 visited Joaquin High School to present awards to high school sophomore Annalyn DeChamplain and high school English Teacher Lynn Silvey. 

Annalyn placed third in the VFW District 19 Voice of Democracy competition for her 3-5-minute essay on this year’s theme “My Vision for America” and received an engraved plaque and check for $100.00. 
 
Mrs. Silvey was selected as the post Teacher of the Year for 2016 and received an engraved pen along with a check for $100.00.  She has been instrumental in the success of the VFW Voice of Democracy program in Shelby County by providing 219 entries from her students since 2005.
