The Timpson Lady Bears tied up a Region III Softball Quarterfinal best-of-three game series on Friday with an 8-1 run win over the Shelbyville Lady Dragons. The Lady Dragons won Game 1 of the series a day earlier by a 3-2 run score.

Timpson got on the board first when Alexis Grigsby led off the top of the first inning by drawing a walk and later scored on an infield hit by Claire Ham. In the top of the third THS extended their lead to 3-0, Grigsby scored on a sacrifice fly and Ceale Kruse later scored by tagging up on a long fly ball to centerfield by Cale Cornelius.

Shelbyville fought back to cut the THS lead to 3-1 when Kylie Snell led off the bottom of the fourth inning by walking and she later scored on a throwing error.

Disaster struck for SHS when Timpson exploded during a rally in the top of the fifth inning that brought 8 batters to the plate and saw Grigsby, Ceale Kruse, Taylor Stewart, Ham, and Cornelius all score before the Lady Dragons could retire the side. This brought the score to 8-1 runs in favor of the Lady Bears.

Alexis Grigsby pitched all seven innings for THS and gave up four hits. She struckout six and walked four.

Taylor Jones went four inning and gave up four hits, walked four, and struck out four for SHS. Teammate Lanie Bass struckout two, walked two and gave up two hits in two innings at pitcher.

Game 3 will decide this series and will start at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, May 11 again at Carthage Lady Bulldogs Ballpark at Carthage High School.
