Lady Dragons Take 5-2 run Bi-District Softball Win over Lady Indians- UPDATE

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons began their best-of-three game Bi-District softball series with the Groveton Indians on Thursday afternoon. The game was eventually suspended due to repeated lighting strike delays, Groveton had completed their first at bat and held a 1-0 run lead. When the game resumed on Friday, a Cadee Harley single scored Lanie Bass to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Dragons were not through as later, a bases loaded walk by Nicole Harvey scored Cori Lawson and gave Shelbyville their first lead of the game at 2-1.

Groveton scored to tie the game at 2-2 runs in the top of the sixth frame. Cori Lawson scored to regain the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth frame and later in the inning Laney Bass singled to score Carsey Lovell to extend the SHS lead to 4-2. A Lizzie Jernigan single scored Bass later to extend the Lady Dragons advantage to 5-2 going into the seventh inning.

Shelbyville’s defense did the rest and they won by the 5-2 run score.

The Lady Dragons fell to the Lady Indians by a 6-1 score in Game 2 . But bounced back to win Game 3 and the series with a 6-1 run win. Shelbyville is the second-place representative of District 23 2A and they have a 19-10 season record.They advance to face Jewett in the area round of the Texas UIL Class 2A Softball Playoffs next week. Groveton was the #1 seed of District 24 2A and their season ends with a 23-8 record.
