Lady Dragons Take Bi-District Win Over Lady Bearkats

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons Varsity Basketball Team won a Bi-District Basketball playoff game over the Cushing Lady Bearkats by a 46-38 score. This moved the Lady Dragon's season mark to 21-7 and advances them to the Area Round of the UIL playoffs. Cushing's season ended with them posting a 20-8 mark. They were the second place representative of District 21 2A. Shelbyville came in as the third place representative of District 22 2A.

Lady Dragon freshman guard Kiana Bennett proved to be a difference maker in this game as she had eight points in the first period, 13 points at halftime, and a game-high 24 points by the end of the contest. Sophomore guard Brooke Elliott scored ten points for SHS to help in the cause. Junior forward Melody Duncan led the Lady Bearkats with 12 points.

Shelbyville led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 27-14 at the halftime intermission. Cushing got a 3-pointer and two putback shot by Duncan late in the third stanza to pull to within five points and cut the Shelbyville lead to 34-29 going into the final frame. Five different players scored for Shelbyville during the fourth stanza to help them take the eight point win.

The Lady Dragons will take on the winner of the Hull-Daisetta versus Zavalla game.
