Lady Dragons Take Game 3 Series Win over Lady Bears

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons varsity softball team advanced to the Texas Region III Softball Semifinals after gaining a Game 3 win over the Timpson Lady Bears in a 3-2 run walkoff nailbiter in the Region III Quarterfinals.

Shelbyville scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Carsey Lovell singled off the centerfield wall with one out and then scored later on a passed ball. Shelbyville added a second run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kylie Snell doubled off the leftfield wall and later scored on a Timpson error giving SHS a 2-0 run advantage.

Timpson scored both their runs in the top of the fifth inning during a rally which saw them bring eight batters to the plate. Alexis Grigsby led off the inning by drawing a walk and Ceale Kruse reached next on a fielder’s choice. They both later scored on a Shelbyville throwing error and tied the game at 2-2.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh frame when Nicole Harvey led off the inning with an infield hit on a well-placed bunt. Harvey scored the final run in walkoff fashion when Lovell singled to rightfield two batters later.

Lanie Bass pitched the complete game win for SHS and struck out 7, walked 4, and gave up 4 hits. Alexis Grigsby pitched the complete game for THS and struck out 7, walked 3 and gave up 5 hits.

The elimination loss ends Timpson’s season at 21-14. Shelbyville moves on to the regional semifinals with a 26-11 overall record and they will next face the winner of the Overton vs Cross Roads series. At press time Cross Roads leads the series 1-0.

Shelbyville Head Coach Ryan Mason said after the game, “I really feel like our whole team stood out today, Lanie Bass pitched great and Jayleigh Jones made some great plays, even our bench stood up and made some noise. This kept our energy up, we are a family 100 %!”
