The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity softball team improved their District 22 2A record to 2-0 with a convincing 16-1 win over the visiting Martinsville Lady Pirates on Monday. The win gives JHS a 13-5 overall standing.

Joaquin was able to hold Martinsville to a single hit in the top of the first inning. In the bottom half of the first, a 3-run homerun to centerfield by Brooklyn Bagley gave JHS a 3-0 run advantage and a 2-run shot later in the inning by teammate Kate Fuller gave the Lady Rams a 5-0 lead going into the second frame.

Good defense by JHS in the top of the second inning, and  a 2-out rally featuring 4 hits and 5 walks by Lady Rams batters allowed Joaquin to take a 13-0 lead by the end of the frame.

Martinsville scored a run in the top of the third inning but the Lady Rams turned a double play to end the inning with JHS leading 13-1.

The Lady Rams then got runs from Autumn Webb, Mariya Wilson and Tay Wilson which gave them the fifteen-run advantage at 16-1 which was needed to end the game in the third inning by mercy rule.

Joaquin will travel to Shelbyville High School tomorrow, March 14 for more District 22 action with junior varsity playing at 4:30 p.m. and varsity to follow at Lady Dragons Ballpark.
