The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity softball team started out their 2025 District season with an 8-1 road win over the Chireno Lady Owls on Monday. The game, originally slated to be played at Joaquin on Tuesday, was moved due to impending weather and field conditions. Joaquin’s overall record improves to 12-3.

Karoline Oswalt led off the top of first inning with a base hit and Landry Balckom followed with a walk to give the Lady Rams two runners with no outs. Oswalt scored later in the inning on a fielder’s choice to give JHS a 1-0 run advantage with one out. Moments later Balckom scored on a passed ball to extend Joaquin’s lead to 2-0.

A solo homerun over the leftfield wall by Jessie Webb gave Joaquin a 3-0 run lead early in the fifth inning. Then scores by Oswalt, Balckolm, and Mariya Wilson gave JHS a 6-0 advantage before the Owls could retire the Lady Rams to end the fifth frame.

Kate Fuller and Halie Bonner singled to start the top of the sixth inning and an RBI single to rightfield by Balckom scored them to give Joaquin an 8-0 run lead.

The final run of the game was made when Chireno’s Lacie Boulet singled up the middle of the infield to begin the bottom of the final inning and she scored on an RBI single by Kenley Moore. The Lady Rams were able to get the final three outs with the score at Joaquin 8 and Chireno 1 as the final tally.

Karoline Oswalt, Ellie Anglin and Landry Balckom teamed up to pitch the 7-inning game and collectively struck out 13 batters (Oswalt accounted for 12 K’s), allowed seven hits, and gave up two walks. Chireno’s Kenley Moore struck out 3, gave up 12 hits and walked 3.
