Joaquin Lady Rams Ballpark, Friday, April 5, 2019 -
The Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity Softball Team took an 8-1 win over the visiting Cushing Bearkats last Friday. Joaquin is currently in second place in District 22 2A competition with a 8-2 win-loss mark and they trail only Garrison who has a single loss in league action.
Cushing jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a score after Zoe Dawson scored on a passed ball after the Lady Bearkats had loaded the bases with hit-batters. This, however, proved to be Cushing’s sole score of the contest.
Joaquin took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the first frame. Ebbie McCann led off the inning with a lead-off single up the middle. An infield hit by JJ Bass put runners on the corners. A 2 runs-batted-in double to centerfield by Chloe Mason drove in McCann and Bass.
Bass scored her second run of the contest in the bottom of the third frame which gave Joaquin a 3-1 lead. Joaquin ballooned their lead to 8-1 with a rally in the sixth inning which saw them get scores from Kennedy Stanley, Chrislyn Pena, Kalie Brooks, Maddisyn Cheatwood and McCann.
Chloe Mason struck out 12 Cushing batters during the game, gave up only four hits and walked three. Joaquin hit safely 11 times, walked once, and only struck out twice.
The Lady Rams will face Timpson, at Timpson Softball Complex, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 5 p.m.
