Lady Roughriders Fall to Lady ‘Dogs 7-1

The Center Lady Roughriders traveled to Carthage on Tuesday to face the Carthage Lady Bulldogs in a District 20 4A game. The Lady Bulldogs used a big rally in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull away after both teams had been held scoreless up until that point of the contest.

Center’s run came in the top of the fifth inning when Jasmine Cooks drove in Kaley LaRock with a single to leftfield. This cut the Carthage lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Carthage used a lead-off walk, an error , three hits and a sacrifice fly to put the game away with four runs which gave them a 7-1 lead which held up for the remainder of the 6 ½ inning contest.

Statistically the game looked much closer than the score. Carthage earned 8 hits, one walk, and committed just one error. Center gained five hits, a walk, and an error.

Brooke Johnson did the bulk of the Lady ‘Dogs pitching, she went six innings and recorded four strikeouts.

Center’s McKayla Hubbard rang up five Carthage batters for strikeouts in six innings of pitching.

The Lady Roughriders are now 0-4 in conference play. They will next host the Hudson Lady Hornets on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Lady Roughriders’ Field, at 6 p.m. The Lady Hornets are unbeaten in conference action.
