The Center Lady Roughriders varsity softball team fell at home by a 16-3 run score to the visiting Hudson Lady Hornets. The game was called at the end of the fifth inning due to mercy rule.

Hudson rallied for three runs in the top of the first inning. Center answered and scored two runs to pull to within 3-2 when May Johnson singled to rightfield and was later driven in when Ryleigh Youngblood homered over the right-centerfield fence in the bottom of the first inning.

Hudson scored another run in the top of the second and four more runs in the third inning to take a 8-2 lead. They went up 13-2 in the fourth with another rally which saw nine batters come to the plate.

May Johnson led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to rightfield. She later scored Center’s final run on a DeLaCruz single to rightfield. Center trailed Hudson by a 13-3 score.

Hudson was able to ice the game with three more runs in the top of the fifth and by playing good defense as they did not allow any baserunners to reach during the final three outs.

Center will regroup with a bye/open date scheduled for March 17. Center will open District 17 4A play when they travel to Carthage on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 for a 6 p.m. opener at Lady Bulldogs Stadium.
