Lady Tigers Perform Well at Summer Hoops

June 23, 2016 - The Tenaha Lady Tigers basketball team looked sharp at Tenahas’ Special Events Center, last Tuesday, during summer basketball competition.

The Lady Tigers opened up the day’s play and jumped up 4-0 quickly against the Beckville Lady Bearcats. Beckville scored next but soon found themselves trailing 9-2 after a 2-pointer by Calicia Roland and a 3-point bomb by Lady Tiger Bianca Davison with 13:33 left in the first half of play. Roland hit another bucket later which gave THS a 15-5 lead with four minutes left before halftime.

Tenaha extended their lead to 28-9 by the end of the half with a fast-break wrap-around pass from Brooke McClure to Roland for an easy lay-up and another Davison 3-pointer.

The second half was mostly all Tenaha as they led 34-11 with eight minutes remaining, and won by a 46-13 final score.

The second game of the night featured the Broaddus Elite Sisters against Beckville. The Lady Bearcats won in a game which was close throughout and had 14 lead changes. The final score had BHS ahead 31-29.

Tenaha next faced Broaddus in the final game. Broaddus gained a narrow 3-2 lead early but fell behind 15-5 after an early 11-point burst by Tenaha postman Calicia Roland.

Rebekah Bridges broke loose for two points on a fast break layup with 3:03 left in the first half which put THS ahead 19-8. THS led 21-13 at the halftime break.

The Lady Tigers outscored the Elite Sisters by a 45-3 margin in the second half and took away a 56-16 final score win.

The Lady Tigers as well as other area teams look forward to more summer league competitions held on Tuesdays at the THS SEC at 5 PM.
