Meet three of the authors who will be at the first annual Shelby County Author’s Day:

Larry Enmon

Shelby County native, Larry Enmon is retired from the U.S. Secret Service, where he acted as liaison between the USSS and FBI, working in the Joint Terrorism Task Force. He also received training from the CIA in the investigation and production of weapons of mass destruction. In addition to his political thrillers, he is the author of the Rob and Frank mystery series. Larry lives in North Texas with his wife, and they both enjoy getting away from it all at their East Texas ranch and North Carolina mountain cabin. 'Worst Case Scenario' by Larry Enmon

Lamar Denby, Jr.

Lamar Denby, Jr. is a pastor, singer, and a writer. He grew up in the small community of Patroon, just south of Shelbyville. His ancestors were among settlers to Shelby County. His recently published book, Blood and Courage, is the story of Col. Moses F. Roberts, his third great-grandfather who was a soldier and congressman in the Republic of Texas and a state representative after annexation. Though Lamar has been a resident of Angelina County since 1984 where he pastors, his compassion for his home county has not waned. “My roots are planted deep in that Shelby County soil. It is home and will always be my home.,” he says. 'Blood and Courage: The Story of Colonel Moses Fisk Roberts' by Lamar Denby Jr.

Joann Bush

After author Joann Bush's son, Jon, was born in 1976, she frequently heard voices saying he would not live past age eighteen. She ignored the messages, telling herself she was being silly and ridiculous. Bush believed in God, but at the same time, she wasn't sure about life after death. She believes she now has her answer. In My Borrowed Angel, she shares her story including how twenty-three-year-old Jon, his wife, and their ten-month-old daughter were killed in a car accident in 1999. Numb with grief, Bush narrates how she and other family members began receiving messages from Jon. He asked that she help children. Reflecting on her experiences, Bush believes God loaned her Jon for a purpose. She's since started a foundation in honor of Jon, Macy, and Misty to help children who have major medical conditions.

Joann Bush is founder and CEO of the Jon, Macy, & Misty Bush Foundation, a nonprofit foundation with the mission of helping children with major medical problems. Bush has also worked as a medical laboratory technologist for fifty years. 'My Borrowed Angel: God’s Message about the Future' by Joann Bush
