Memorial Day 2024 at the Historic Courthouse

May 27, 2024 - Shelby County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Auxiliary invite the public to their annual Memorial Day Program to be held in the 1885 Historic Courthouse on the square in Center on Monday, May 27, 2024. The program will begin at 11am.

The 231 names of Shelby County military killed in action/missing in action from the Mexican-American War to today’s War on Terrorism will be read. While the names are being read, the public is invited to help decorate the Memorial Wreath. Three Quilts of Valor will be presented by the Shelby County 4-H Sewing Sensations Project. Musical selections will also be presented by David Mathis and members of the First Baptist Church, along with Leigh Porterfield and Dylan Roberts.

At the conclusion of the program, all will adjourn outside to the Veterans Memorial for the playing of Taps and raising the flags to full staff. We strongly encourage you to join us and bring your family, as this is an excellent opportunity to not only honor our veterans but also educate our youth about the sacrifices of many. We look forward to your presence.
