A Message of Love; Alto Students Donate to Tenaha Students

December 10, 2015 - Alto Superintendent, Kerry Birdwell, presents Tenaha students, LaPorsha Perry (left) and Kyesha Perry (right), with a heartfelt message from Alto students.

Recent tragedies have left both Alto ISD and Tenaha ISD reeling in disbelief. Alto ISD suffered the sudden loss of football player, Cam’ron Matthews in October and Tenaha ISD students LaPorsha Perry and Kyesha Perry both lost their Mom, Nicole Perry, Tenaha ISD employee, and their Dad, Porter Perry, in late November. Communities all over the East Texas area have rallied together to show support for both schools in their times of need.

Upon hearing the news of the Tenaha tragedy, Alto students wanted to show their support to LaPorsha and Kyesha. Students began raising money to donate to the Perry girls to assist with funeral costs and expenses. On December 9th , Alto Superintendent Kerry Birdwell, presented the girls with a monetary donation and messages from Alto students along with one very special message from the parents of Cam’ron Matthews.

On behalf of the Perry family, Tenaha ISD would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Alto ISD and to the parents of Cam’ron Matthews.

The compassion shown by Alto ISD students, faculty, and the parents of Cam’ron Matthews teaches all of us that no one is alone in a time of tragedy. Their message is one of love and empathy for others, a message that all can live by.
