Night Work Schedule in Nacogdoches County

July 22, 2015 - TxDOT officials will alternate lane closures on Business 59 in Nacogdoches County beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 26th in order to begin a four-night seal coating project that will require adjoining businesses and residents to turn off their sprinkler systems.

The work will begin on South Street (Business 59) and work northward on North Street to Stallings Drive during the four night project. Work will begin at 8 p.m. each night and end at 6 a.m. each morning until the work is completed.

Adjoining businesses and residents are being asked to turn off their sprinkler systems at night during the work hours.

“We are asking them to turn off the sprinkler systems because if there is any moisture on the pavement during the work, the seal coat will not adhere and the process will have to be repeated wasting valuable time,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the Lufkin District. “The sprinklers only need to be off during the nighttime hours while crews are applying the seal coat.”

A seal coat is an application of a layer of asphalt binder covered with a layer of aggregate applied to an existing surface. The yearly application cost $180 million statewide and works to maintain more than 186,600 lane miles of roadway.

Motorists are advised to choose alternate routes during the work hours, but if they must travel through the work area, they are advised to remain alert to workers and moving machinery during the nighttime hours, pay attention to reduced speed limit signs and remember that all traffic fines double when workers are present.
