Panola College’s Medical Laboratory Technology Program Accepting Applications Until August 15, 2020

July 29, 2020 - In the fall of 2012, Panola College and its Health Information Technology department launched a new program: Medical Lab Technician (MLT). Eight years later, this program is still going strong.

Students who complete the MLT program will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology. The MLT program requirement courses are offered exclusively online. This gives students the opportunity to balance family life and/or work life while pursuing a career in clinical lab science.

Students meet 3 Saturdays per semester on the Panola College campus in Carthage to perform hands-on lab activities that prepare them for clinical experience and future employment.

The MLT is a critical member of the healthcare team. These lab technicians collect, receive, and process specimens in various forms (i.e. blood, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, and more). Physicians routinely order tests on these specimens in order to get a picture of the overall health of a patient, or to diagnose any acute illnesses or disease processes that may be going on inside the body.

The MLT program is now accepting applications for the fall semester. The final deadline to apply is August 15, 2020. Information about the program, along with the application, can be found at www.panola.edu/programs. If you would like additional information or have a question, email Kim Bishop at kbishop@panola.edu
