Panola College to Celebrate Students for Volunteerism

National Student Day set for October 9

CARTHAGE, TX, October 9 – Panola College Store and Panola College Student Activities are joining almost 2,000 other college campus stores across the U.S. and Canada Oct. 9 to celebrate and promote social responsibility during the fourth annual National Student Day.

National Student Day, sponsored by the National Association of College Stores (NACS), is a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting social responsibility by college and high school students.

“We decided to take part in National Student Day because we see our students committing selfless acts every day,” said Jessica Pace, Store Manager. “From volunteering at New Destinations or RampUp to organizing fundraisers, our students continue to improve the campus and community beyond. We are proud of our students and are taking the opportunity to recognize them. We hope to use this day to celebrate the current volunteerism our students are doing and to involve students who are presently looking for a way to give back to their community.”

Panola College Student Activities and Panola College Store have activities set up to promote volunteer opportunities from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on October 9 in the Phoebe Sue Perlman Student Center. Several different charity organizations from Carthage, Center, Marshall, Longview, and other surrounding areas will be setting up booths to display their services and student opportunities. Panola College will be passing out free National Student Day items and serving free popcorn.

Students can win one of several prizes from Panola College Store and Student Activities by submitting a photo of themselves volunteering at their chosen charity. Students can submit the photos by emailing a copy to pcstore@panola.edu, uploading to the Panola College Store Facebook, or by bringing a copy to the store. Prizes will vary from gift certificates to the Panola College Store, Bluetooth speakers, DVDs, and other items. The photos will be used on National Student Day filling the store’s windows to display the amazing acts and involvement of our students.

Students can also win cool prizes from NACS by sharing a selfie showing their social responsibility. Students can submit photos of themselves giving back to their community by uploading them to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #NSDvolunteer. The three randomly selected students will receive $1,000, and $1,000 will be donated to the 501(c)(3) charity of their choice.
