Panola College Nursing Students Present at East Texas Summit

April 29, 2015 - Four Panola College RN students presented a poster presentation on "Bridging the Gap Between Clinical Education and New Graduate Practice" at the East Texas Summit for the 'Texas Team Future of Nursing'. The summit was held at Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler, TX on April 24, 2015 with over 170 participants from area hospitals, colleges and universities. The students, Bradley Baker, Melissa Jeane, Amanda Woodfin, and Rachel Gardner will be graduating with Associate Degrees in Nursing on May 15th. They were the only student group to present at the conference and were stationed at the poster presentation among doctorally prepared nurses with research backgrounds. "We were so proud of the professionalism displayed by our students," said Karen McClellan, one of their instructors. "This type of experience, positions our students to be leaders in the profession".

The goal of the conference was to bring educators and business partners together to discuss common goals to advance nursing in Texas. The Texas Team is our state’s nursing action coalition, cosponsored by TNA and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.

The Texas Team believes all Texans deserve better care, better health, and lower healthcare costs. Nurses – as the largest group of health care providers in the state – are essential to achieving these three goals in Texas. Texas Team members are enthusiastically working to transform nursing and health care in Texas
