Panola Rodeo Team Scores Valuable Points in Hillsboro

March 31, 2017 - The Panola College Rodeo Team was in Hillsboro March 23rd-25th, for the 9th Southern Region Rodeo. The Women’s and Men’s team both had team members that scored valuable points for the Ponies.

Taylor Gooch had a great weekend in the goat tying with a shocking time of 6.9 seconds earning her a 2nd place finish. Taylor is a rodeo athlete who has had tremendous winnings throughout her college rodeo career. She competes in the girl’s breakaway event as well. Taylor has been in the 6 second range at three rodeos this season. For Taylor, in her last year of eligibility in college rodeo, she is setting in the number 5 spot just 14 points behind the CNFR qualifying position. Taylor will lay it all on the line at the last rodeo, it will be exciting.

In the event of team roping, Logan Cook (heeler), and partner, Tyler Crone (header), of Trinity Valley Community College were able to show off their skills. They stopped the clock with an impressive time of 6.2 seconds earning themselves a 3rd place finish. Logan Cook is a team member on the Men’s Rodeo Team and from his victory in the team roping he was able to win points for his team as well as individual points for the chance to qualify for the College Finals. Cook is also sitting third in the Men’s All Around standings. Logan has already secured himself a position at the CNFR in the Saddlebronc riding, now setting 2nd in the region and an uncatchable lead and still the possibility of winning 1st in the region.

Panola College Rodeo Team is preparing to take all the winnings available at the last college rodeo of the season. You can catch them back in action, April 21st-22nd at Wharton.
