Quilts of Valor Sew Day: Honoring Shelby County Military Veterans

January 2, 2024 - Are you ready to become a part of something truly special? Unleash your creativity, share your kindness, and honor our Texas veterans and military members through the art of quilting with Quilts of Valor!

Quilts of Valor (QOV) is a nationwide initiative that brings people together to create handcrafted quilts specially designed for our courageous veterans and active-duty military members. These quilts are heartfelt expressions of appreciation and love, symbolizing the deep respect we have for those who have selflessly served our country.

Texas 4-H is partnering with Quilts of Valor Under Our Wings to provide Quilts of Valor to make this happen. Whether you're a seasoned quilter or a beginner eager to learn, the Quilts of Valor program warmly welcomes youth in grades 3-12 and adults!

The Quilts of Valor Sew Day event is scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Center, Texas. Youth in grades 3rd through 12th and adults with beginner or expertise sewing skills are welcome to join the Shelby Sewical Bee Quilting Club and the 4-H Under Our Wings program to learn how to make a special quilt for a local veteran in our county. The program begins at 9am and you may stay, learn, and sew as long as you want!

Light refreshments will be provided, and you are welcome to bring a sack lunch and drink. Sewing machines and fabric will be provided at no charge as the quilts made will be awarded a local veteran. Want to participate in the Sew Day? Register by contacting the Extension office at 936-598-7744.

Quilts made will be awarded to Shelby County military veterans at Holiday Nursing home.
