Nacogdoches High School on Saturday, March 18, 2023 –
The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team fell to 2-1 in District 23 2A play after a loss to the Garrison Bulldogs on Saturday. Joaquin is now 12-4-1 for the season and in a two-way tie for third place with Garrison who is also at 2-1 in the conference. Shelbyville and Woden each lead District 23 with 3-0 records.
Garrison got an early lead when Eli Compton led off with a single in the bottom of the first inning and was driven home by Dallas McFadden later in the inning which gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 run advantage.
Garrison rallied in the bottom of the third inning and got runs from Tryton Kruse, Gatlan Holmes, Dallas McFadden and GHS went up 4-0.
Joaquin scored their only run in the top of the fifth when TJ Hawkins reached base on a double off the leftfield wall and he was later driven in on an RBI double to leftfield by teammate Colton Harper.
Compton scored his second run in the bottom of the sixth after he reached base on an outfielder’s error and was driven in when McFadden singled to leftfield for the final run giving Garrison the 5-1 run win.
Joaquin will travel to Timpson on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 for 6 p.m. conference game at Bears Ballpark. The Bears are 0-3 in the conference.
