Rams Drop Game 2 in Region III Playoff with Indians 4-1

The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team was eliminated this weekend during a best-of-three game Texas UIL Region III Quarterfinal round playoff series. Friday saw Joaquin fall by a 9-0 run score in Game 1 and Douglass took Game 2 on Saturday by a 4-1 score.

Game 2 was close with Douglass gaining a 2-0 run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ram LJ Whitton led off the fifth inning by reaching base after getting hit by a pitch and he later scored after tagging up on a sacrifice fly to the outfield by teammate Derik Holt. This cut the DHS lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Douglass scored the final two runs of the contest on a pair of errors and a walked batter giving Douglass the final 4-1 run lead.

Bennett Anglin pitched for Joaquin and gave up 3 hits, struck out 6 Indians batters and walked 3. Indian pitcher Payton Bragg struck out 8, walked 3 and gave up 7 hits. Joaquin finishes with a 25-10-1 overall record.

Douglass is 23-9 they will move on to face the Beckville Bearcats (24-5) next week in the Texas UIL Region III Semifinals.
