Gary Bobcats Gymnasium on Friday, January 10, 2025 –
The Joaquin Rams varsity basketball team has yet to break into the win column after finishing their semifinal football season just 3 ½ weeks ago. On Friday they fell to the hometown Gary Bobcats by a 106-25 score. The loss puts JHS at 0-6 overall and they have a District 23 2A mark of 0-5. Gary stands at 17-7, and 3-2 in the conference.
Joaquin never led Friday’s contest and Gary had a 18-5 point lead midway through the opening period. By the end of the first quarter Gary had built a 34-5 lead and they led 63-9 at the halftime intermission.
The buzzer which ended the third period saw GHS build an 88-16 lead. GHS outpaced the Rams 18-9 points in the final quarter to cruise to the 106-25 win.
Junior postman Conner Rios led Joaquin with 8 points. Senior guard Dallon Jordan scored 6 and sophomore guard Urijah Ford added 5 points to the Ram’s tally sheet.
Gary was led by Junior guard Kohl Woodfin with 19 points and senior guard Mason Powell had 17 points for the day.
Joaquin High Basketball will travel to Elysian Fields on Tuesday, January 14 to compete at Yellowjacket Gymnasium. The JV teams will start at 4:30 p.m. with varsity girls and boys teams games to follow.
