Joaquin Rams Stadium on Thursday, September 18, 2025 –
The Joaquin Rams varsity football team saw their season record fall to 2-2 when they suffered a 29-7 loss at home to the Grand Saline Indians (3-1).
The Indians got on the scoreboard first when junior defensive back Kolton Prox picked off a Rams pass and raced 72 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Daniel Esquivel added on an extra point kick and Grand Saline led by a 7-0 point score with 3:24 minutes left in the first quarter. The second period saw Joaquin fumble with just over 9 minutes remaining. The Indians embarked on an 83-yard scoring drive which saw Indians senior quarterback Jett Taylor take a 10-yard keeper run into the endzone for a touchdown at the 2:45 mark of the second stanza. The Indians extra point kick was partially blocked and GSHS led 13-0.
Taylor added a touchdown pass to his resume when he hit Prox for his second score which extended the Indians lead to 19-0 with just 24 seconds left before the halftime break.
Taylor hit Bo Hathcock for a 23-yard scoring strike to help give the Indians an 26-0 lead with 9:07 left in the third quarter. In the fourth period Daniel Esquivel extended the Indians lead to 29-0 when he kicked a 36-yard field goal at the 2:32 minute mark.
The Rams moved the football late and junior runningback Amarion Wilson got JHS in scoring position with a 60-yard run in the last minute of the game. With just 11 seconds remaining senior quarterback Trenton Runnels hit sophomore Degan Lee for a 6-yard Rams touchdown reception. Kason Stanaland added on an extra point kick and cut the Indians lead to 29-7.
Joaquin will travel to Corrigan-Camden on Friday, September 26 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Bulldogs Stadium.
