Joaquin Rams Stadium on Friday, September 28, 2024 –
The Joaquin Rams varsity football team improved their season record to 3-2 with 56-35 point Homecoming win over the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs (2-3) on Friday. Before the game Joaquin senior student Kate Fuller was crowned as JHS Homecoming Queen.
The Rams went up 8-0 when senior quarterback Justyn Brown capped Joaquin’s first drive with a 1-yard run for a score and senior Tate bass added on a 2-point conversion run with 6:03 minutes left in the first quarter.
With 10:46 left in the second period senior quarterback Michael Sullivan hit sophomore Bulldog Aiden Heredia for a 9-yard scoring reception and junior Ismael Santoyo added an extra point kick to cut the Ram’s lead to 8-7.
Joaquin went up 14-7 at the 9:07 mark of the second quarter when Bass scored his second touchdown on a 62-yard run.
The Bulldogs bounced back with a 57-yard touchdown by junior William Ratliff. Corrigan’s extra point kick failed and Joaquin still led 14-13 with 8 minutes left before halftime.
Seconds later Jordan scored on a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and JHS extended their lead to 20-13 with 7:45 left in the second stanza. On the next Bulldogs drive Jordan stepped in front of a Sullivan pass attempt and regained possession of the football for the Rams. The ensuing drive led to another Bass scoring run, and a 2-point conversion run by Bass, which gave JHS a 28-13 lead with 6:22 left in the first half of play.
Sophomore Bulldog Derrick Reagie scored on a 3-yard run and Sullivan hit junior Mason Murphy for a 2-point conversion reception to cut the JHS lead to 28-21 with 4:11 remaining in the half.
Bass went 58-yards for another score with 2:40 left in the second frame. The 2-point conversion attempt failed and the Rams led 34-21.
Jordan scored on a 33-yard run with 9 minutes left in the third period and extended the JHS lead to 40-21. One minute later junior Rams linebacker Karson Rodger recovered a fumble to give Joaquin another possession. Rams senior Elijah Hardison scored from 62-yards out to extended the JHS lead to 48-20 after senior TJ Hawkins tacked on a 2-point conversion run.
The Bulldogs cut the JHS lead to 48-28 on a Ratliff scoring reception and a Santoyo extra point kick with 2:53 left in the third frame.
Hardison scored his second touchdown early in the fourth period and sophomore Trenton Runnels added on the 2-point conversion run to put the Rams up 56-28 at the 11:57 mark.
The Bulldogs scored the final points of the contest when Murphy capped a drive with a 1-yard touchdown run and Santoyo added on an extra point kick to pull CCHS to within 56-35 of Joaquin at the 5:22 mark of the final period.
The Rams will enjoy a bye week next Friday and they will host the San Augustine Wolves on October 11.
The Wolves are also 3-2 and they beat visiting Huntington High School (0-4) by a 40-8 score on Friday.
