Ross to Speak at TAGHS March Meeting

March 13, 2023 - Jim Ross, son of J. W. and Laura Ross, who spent their retirement years in the Silas community near Timpson, will speak about the London School explosion to Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society members and guests on Wednesday, March 15, at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex.

Having grown up in Houston, Mr. Ross graduated from Galena Park High School  in 1964 and then embarked on 2 1/2 years of service in the US Army. While living in Silas  he attended Panola College and  subsequently, earned a Masters of Education Degree from SFA. During this time he married a Timpson girl, Linda Williams, in 1968.

Mr. Ross' career in education, first as a teacher and a principal, culminated as the Public School Safety Specialist for Region 7 Education Service Center in Kilgore. He retired from that position in 2005.

Having first become interested in the London School explosion while attending the dedication of the London Museum at its grand opening, Mr. Ross became friends with the director and began what has become ongoing research of the disaster. He is the Honorary Ambassador of the London Museum.

In retirement, Mr. Ross is a photographer and select History researcher. In 2011, he was the official photographer for the 18th Biennial Réunion in New London.

TAGHS welcomes guests and those interested in being part of the organization. Please call 936 615 7262 with any questions.
