Roughriders Lose Lead Late, Fall to Mustangs 68-67

The Center Roughriders varsity basketball team took their first District 17 4A loss on Friday when they fell by a narrow 68-67 score to the visiting Madisonville Mustangs during a game which was close throughout. The Roughriders now stand at 14-7 overall and 4-1 in District 17 4A.

Center led midway through the first period by a 6-5 point score. By the end of the opening period the Mustangs held a 14-12 advantage. Madisonville held the game’s only double-digit lead midway through the second stanza when they held a 27-17 point lead. By halftime the Roughriders had tied the game back up at 31-31. Center gained a 5-point advantage over the Mustangs midway through the third period when they held a 39-34 lead. By the end of the third stanza Madisonville had cut the CHS lead to 49-48. The fourth quarter saw the two teams have 13 lead swaps. MHS led 56-55 midway through the final period and held on for the 68-67 win at game’s end.

The Roughriders were led by senior guard Tim Johnson with 25 points and senior forward Jakevin Robinson scored 21. MHS was led by junior guard Tristan Whaley.

The Roughriders will head to Bullard on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 for another district game at 7 p.m. at Panthers Gymnasium.
