Roughriders Stadium on Friday, October 25, 2024 –
The Center Roughriders varsity football team beat the visiting Brownsboro Bears by a 49-12 score on Friday. The win improves the ‘Rider’s season mark to 7-1 and their District 8 4A-2 record is at 2-1. Brownsboro sits at 0-8, 0-3.
Center got on the scoreboard first when senior quarterback TJ Belin hit senior wideout Timothy Johnson for a 13-yard touchdown reception with 10:44 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Junior Pablo Huichapa kicked an extra point to give CHS an 7-0 point advantage.
With just 6 seconds remaining in the period, Brownsboro answered with a 53-yard scoring run by junior runningback Curtis Warren. An extra point attempt failed and Center led by a narrow 7-6 margin.
Belin hit Johnson for a 11-yard touchdown with 8:45 left in the second quarter and Huichapa converted another extra point kick to give CHS a 14-6 advantage.
Sophomore runningback Jeremy Bluford scored on a 4-yard touchdown run with 5:09 remaining in the first half to help give Center a 21-6 lead. The last play of the first half saw Roughriders junior linebacker Cody Adkinson intercept a Bear’s pass and return it 68 yards for a touchdown after the buzzer sounded. The Roughriders took a 28-6 lead into the second half of play.
Bluford scored his second touchdown of the game with 8:50 remaining in the third stanza and the Roughriders took a 35-6 lead. Belin found Johnson for another touchdown strike with 4:42 left in the third period and CHS led 42-6. Belin hit freshman receiver Yummi Barnes for a 20-yard score with 1:58 left in the period. Senior Omar Barcenas nailed an extra point kick to give CHS a 49-6 lead.
The final score of the game came when senior Bears receiver Keaton Delaney hauled in a 24-yard touchdown reception at the 5:50 mark of the final period.
The Roughriders will travel to Athens High School next Friday, November 1, 2024 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Hornet’s Stadium. The Hornets stand at 5-2 overall and 1-1 in district action.
