Center Roughriders Gymnasium on Friday, January 31, 2025 –
The Center Roughriders varsity basketball team never trailed during Friday’s District 17 4A conference basketball win over the Rusk Eagles. Center scored the first five points of the contest and they led 18-1 midway through the first period. By the end of the first quarter CHS had built a 24-8 advantage.
The second period saw CHS with a 37-14 lead in the middle stages and they had a 49-20 lead at the halftime intermission.
The Roughriders held a 66-23 lead at the end of the third period on their way to the 87-38 conference win.
The Roughriders were led scoring by Tim Johnson with 26 points, Jamarious Canton had 14, Ja Smith 12, Jakalen Barnes 11 and TJ Belin scored ten. Rusk was led by Jermichel Sturns with 15 points.
The Roughriders, now 15-8 for the season and 5-2 in district, have three regular season conference games remaining. They will travel to Palestine Wildcats Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 for a 7:15 tip off with the Wildcat. Palestine is 13-14 overall and 1-6 in District 17 4A.
