Center Roughriders Stadium on Friday, August 30, 2024 –
The Center Roughrider varsity football team opened up their 2024 season with a 38-7 home win over the Jacksonville Indians. Center defender Caleb Mosley ended the Indians initial drive when he intercepted a Jacksonville pass. Three plays later TJ Belin found Timothy Johnson for a 31-yard touchdown. Pablo Muchapa booted through the extra point and CHS led 7-0 with 10:20 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Center regained possession of the football after an Indians fumble and with 7:20 remaining in the opening period when Muchapa extended the ‘Riders lead to 10-0 with a 20-yard field goal.
Center went up at the 5:04 mark of the first period when Belin found Jeramiah Ratcliff and they connected on a 52-yard scoring reception. CHS went up 17-0 after another successful extra point kick.
Caleb Mosley recovered and Indians fumble, just inside the 9-minute mark of the second quarter, and Center drove the ball to the Jacksonville redzone. Belin hit Johnson for a 9-yard scoring completion and Jeremy Bluford added on a 2-point conversion to give CHS a 25-0 with 6:02 left in the first half.
Brandon Barnes picked off an Indians pass and returned it 51-yards for a touchdown with 4:29 left in the second stanza and extended the Roughrider’s lead to 32-0, after another Muchapa conversion kick.
After a scoreless third quarter, Center went up 38-0 with 7:32 left in the fourth quarter, when Belin hit Johnson for a 52-yard scoring strike.
Jacksonville got on the scoreboard when Michael Myles scooped and scored a loose ball from 33-yards out, and KC Cardenas booted through an extra point with just 51 seconds remaining in the contest. The final score stood at Center 38 and Jacksonville 7.
Center will next travel to Spring Hill High School on Friday, September 6 for a 7:30 p.m. game at Panther’s Stadium.
