Sculpture For All opens with Public Reception

April 14, 2017 - NACOGDOCHES – SFA – Sculpture For All, a biennial outdoor exhibition and competition hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University, opens with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.

Juror Dewane Hughes, professor of sculpture at The University of Texas at Tyler and president of the Texas Sculpture Group, will announce the winners during the opening reception. Ten artists from across the nation were selected from a pool of hundreds of sculptors to take part in Sculpture For All 2017-2019.

 "Haiku 3.0," a welded steel sculpture by Dewane Hughes, professor of sculpture at The University of Texas at Tyler and the juror for the 2017-2019 Sculpture For All.

Featured artists include Robbie Barber, Joe Barrington, Russ Connell, Daniel Hunt, Andrew Light, Teresa Lind, Tamara Robertson, Luke Sides and Christopher Thomson. As juror, Hughes also has a work on display.

Sculpture for All is a joint partnership project that brings together faculty, staff and students from the SFA School of Art and the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture's SFA Gardens. This endeavor seeks to expose SFA students and faculty members to art they might not otherwise see while bringing national recognition and publicity to SFA. Sculpture For All plays a vital part in fulfilling the university's mission of excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, creative work and service by creating new learning opportunities, as well as aiding in recruitment of both students and faculty members.
