Shelby County 4-H, FFA 2023 Livestock Show and Sale Official Results

March 7, 2023 (Show Photo Album, Sale Photo Album, Backdrop Photo Album) - The 18th Annual Shelby County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show was held March 2, 2023 at the Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Arena with over 100 exhibitors. Weigh-in of market animals started at 7:30 a.m. and the show began at 10:00 a.m. with rabbits judged by Mrs. April Cade. Edward Schneider, judged the lambs, goats, swine, and cattle. Both judges were very informative and interactive with the youth and animals. The Buyers Appreciation dinner and Livestock Auction was held the following Saturday on March 4th at the John Dean Windham Civic Center. 

The livestock auction premium money totaled just over $112,591 for local 4-H and FFA members according to Lane Dunn, County Extension Agent. We would like to say a special thank you to all contributors and bidders for making this year’s auction our most successful ever.

Champions Row Represented By:


Grand Champion Steer shown by Cassie Nutt

Cassie Nutt of Shelby Co. 4-H showed the Grand Champion Steer. Following the show, Cassie’s steer sold at the livestock auction for $10,000 with High Roller purchasing the 1,270-pound steer.

Reserve Champion Steer honor went to Sydney Shout of Timpson FFA. Sydney’s steer was purchased by High Roller for $6,000. 


Grand Champion Market Swine shown by Irelynn Clouse

The Grand Champion Market Swine was shown by Irelynn Clouse of Joaquin FFA with Victory Therapy purchasing the champion hog for $4,000.

Slade Kirby of Center FFA showed the Reserve Champion Market Swine. The hog was sold to Farmers State Bank for $3,250.


Grand Champion Market Goat shown by Avery Metcalf

In the Market Goat division, Avery Metcalf of Timpson FFA showed the Grand Champion. Avery’s goat was purchased for $4,000 by Ross Lumber, Debby and Tim Amos, 5M Gas, LLC, Timpson/Joaquin Quick Stop, James and Robin Conway, Factory Direct Portable Buildings, McDonald and Sons, Hudman Floral and Gifts, Nix Forrest Industries, Inc., Bulldog Tire, Hudson Auto Parts, Johnson’s Wang Dang Do, James Ramsey Construction, Inc., T-5 Construction, Don and Marcie Shoemaker and Rancho Grande.

The Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat was shown by Keelie McDonald of Timpson FFA. Keelie’s goat was purchased for $2,500 by Mackey Cattle.


Grand Champion Market Lamb shown by Landree Jousan

Landree Jousan of Shelby Co. 4-H showed the Grand Champion Market Lamb in Thursday’s show. Hawkeye Hunting Club purchased Landree’s lamb for $5,000.

Reserve Champion honors in the Market Lamb division went to Jacie Lee of Center FFA. United Ag and Turf, Buddy and Paula Kay Atwood, Judge Allison Harbison, Few Ready Mix, and R&D Distributing purchased Jacie’s lamb for $3,000.

The Grand Champion Market Rabbit was shown by Brooklyn Oliver of Center FFA. Brooklyn will receive premium money in the amount of $400. Caesyn Lee of Timpson FFA showed the Reserve Grand Champion pen of market rabbits. Caesyn will receive $350 in premium money.

The Speaking Contest was held for the second year at the Shelby County Livestock Show this year. Winning the Junior Division of the Public Speaking Contest was Landree Jousan of Shelby Co. 4-H with a speech in the Animal Science category titled, “Lizzie the Replacement Heifer.”

The Intermediate Division of the Public Speaking Contest was won by Kayson Pledger of Timpson FFA with a speech in the Animal Science category titled, “To Feed or Not to Feed.”

Catherine Searcy of Timpson FFA won the Senior Division with their speech in the Ag Policy category titled, “Put a Pause On the PAUSE Act.”
