Shelby County 4-H, FFA 2024 Livestock Show and Sale Official Results (Backdrop Photos Updated)

March 4, 2024 - (Show Photo Album, Sale Photo Album, Backdrop Photo Album) - The Shelby County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show was held the week of February 26 through March 2, 2024. Starting off the week with the new Shelby County 4-H & FFA Commercial Heifer Show.

February 26th was the beginning of the Shelby County Livestock with the first annual Commercial Heifer Show. Center Livestock Auction hosted twelve exhibitors checking in twenty-four heifers. Judging the Commercial Heifer Show was Dr. Joe Paschal and Linda Galayda. Heifers were evaluated, exhibitors were interviewed, and record books were scored. Wednesday, February 28th, heifers were auctioned off at Center Livestock Auction to the highest bidder. The sale barn was full of buyers supporting our youth.

The Speaking Contest was held on Tuesday, February 27. This was its third year at the Shelby County Livestock Show. This is a public speaking contest covering topics in agriculture and is open to all FFA and 4-H members. This project continues to grow each year.

Thursday, February 29th the Shelby County Livestock Show took place at the Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Arena with over 100 exhibitors. The weigh-in of market animals started at 7:30 a.m. and the show began at 10:00 a.m. with rabbits judged by Mrs. April Cade. Edward Schneider judged the lambs, goats, swine, and cattle. Both judges were very informative and interactive with the youth and animals. The Buyers Appreciation dinner and Livestock Auction was held the following Saturday on March 2nd at the John Dean Windham Civic Center.

The livestock auction premium money totaled just over $110,993 for local 4-H and FFA members according to Lane Dunn, County Extension Agent. We would like to say a special thank you to all contributors and bidders for making this year’s auction our most successful ever.

The following are the results of the show and auction:
