Shelby County Football This Week, Week 9

Last week three of Shelby County’s varsity football teams won district games and two teams lost.

The Center Roughriders fell at Van High School to the Vandals by a 56-36 score. The ‘Riders are now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in District 8 4A-2. Center will host the Carthage Bulldogs 8-0, 0-4 on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Carthage defeated the visiting Rusk Eagles 49-21 last week.

The Joaquin Rams fell at home to the San Augustine Wolves by a narrow 49-48 score last week. The loss puts the Rams at 1-6 overall and they stand at 1-3 in District 11 2A-1. They will have the tall task of facing the Timpson Bears on Friday at 7 p.m. at Timpson Bears John Herbert Eakin Stadium. The Bears are 7-0 overall and 3-0 in District 11. They won at West Sabine last Friday by a 56-8 score.

The Shelbyville Dragons defeated the visiting Grapeland Sandies last Friday by a 64-36 score. They are 4-2 overall and 2-1 in District 11 2A-1. The Dragons travel to San Augustine on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Wolves Stadium. San Augustine won at Joaquin by a 49-48 score. The Wolves are 3-4, 1-2.

The Tenaha Tigers are atop District 10 2A-2 standings at 2-0. They are 5-2 overall after defeating the Alto Yellowjackets by a 55-20 score. This Saturday they will host the Cushing Bearkats (3-4, 0-2) for the Tiger’s 2023 Homecoming. Cushing lost at home to Carlisle by a 49-48 score last week.
