Shelby County Shooters Busting Clays

April 8, 2019 - The Shelby County Shooters have been busting clays and winning in 2019 to bring home medals, buckles, and bragging rights.

The Crosby 4H club hosted a whizbang on February 4, 2019 at the Pecan Meadow Shooting Center in Liberty. The Shelby County 4H Shooters had three members participate. Results are as follows:

  • Junior Division - Eddie Turk placed 2nd in sporting clays.
  • Senior I Division - Lance Holloway placed 1st in whizbang and 4th in sporting clays.
  • Senior II Division - Colton Gutermuth placed 1st in whizbang, 1st in sporting clays,  and was the Senior II high over all (HOA) and top gun.

The San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Shootout was held at the National Shooting Complex on February 13-17. This is the richest youth shoot in the state and had over 950 participants ranging in age from 3rd grade through 12th grade representing 4H and FFA. Shelby County 4H Shooters had six participants in the SALE Junior Shootout which include Logan Holloway, Colton Gutermuth, Dawson McFaddin, Lance Holloway, Rex Payne and Eddie Turk. The kids had a great week with high scores and personal bests. Dawson McFaddin won a pair of Pilla shooting glasses and Lance Holloway won a Briley gift card. Logan Holloway placed 3rd in Modified Trap and won a belt buckle, a rifle and 4 cases of shells. 

Madison County Whizbang 2019

The Madison County 4H Whizbang was held on March 2nd and 3rd in Madisonville, Texas. On Saturday, Shelby County 4H shooter Eddie Turk competed in the junior division. Eddie placed 2nd in American trap, 6th in American skeet and 6th in whizbang. On Sunday, the senior level age group competed. Colton Gutermuth placed 3rd in whizbang and 3rd in American Trap. Logan Holloway placed 2nd in whizbang, 3rd in American skeet and 4th in trap. Logan was also high overall (HOA) of the senior II division.

2019 Henderson County Whizbang

The Henderson County Whizbang was held at Rose City Flying Clays in Tyler, on Saturday, March 30th. Shelby County 4H Shooters had three members participating. In the senior 2 division, Dawson McFaddin placed 3rd in trap, 5th in skeet and 4th in whizbang. In the junior division, Rex Payne placed 1st in trap, 2nd in whizbang, 4th in skeet and 4th in sporting clays. Rex was also Reserve Champion HOA. Also, in the junior division, Eddie Turk placed 2nd in trap, 1st in skeet, 1st in whizbang, 1st in sporting clays and was HOA of the junior division. In addition, the team of Dawson McFaddin and Neil McFaddin placed 2nd in adult/child team. 

Montgomery County Whizbang 2019

The Montgomery County whizbang was held on March 23rd in Snook. Shelby County 4H shooter Eddie Turk attended the shoot and brought home many metals. Eddie placed 5th in skeet, 4th in trap, 4th in sporting clays, and 4th in whizbang. Congratulations Eddie!

Shelby County 4H Shooters would like to thank Hawkeye Hunting Club for allowing them practice time on their range. All participants are looking forward to finishing the year strong.
