Shelby County Varsity Football Teams Headed to Bi-District Playoffs

Four of Shelby County’s Five varsity football teams are headed to the Bi-district level of the UIL Playoffs.

The Center Roughriders were narrowly eliminated from the playoffs with a 48-45 loss to the Rusk Eagles. Center ended their season with a 1-9 overall record and a fifth place 1-4 District 10 4A-2 mark.

The Joaquin Rams finished their regular season with a 5-4 overall record and a 2-2 District 10 2A-1 mark. This put Joaquin, Shelbyville, and Garrison in a three-way tie behind first place Timpson. The tie breaker sends JHS into the playoffs as the fourth-place representative. They will face Beckville, the first-place representative of District 9. The Beckville Bearcats are 9-0 overall and they went 6-0 in district action. The game will be held at Henderson Lions Stadium on Friday November 12, 2021, starting at 7:30 pm.

The Shelbyville Dragons are the third seed for District 10 2A-1. They finished regular season play with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-2 District 10 mark. The Dragons will play the Price-Carlisle Indians, on Thursday November 11 at 7pm, at Carthage High School. The Indians are the second-place representative of District 9 and they boast a 5-4 overall record and they went 5-1 in conference action.

The Tenaha Tigers are the champions of District 11 2A2. They ended the season with a 6-0 conference mark and an 8-2 overall mark. The Tigers will play against the Burkeville Mustangs on Thursday, November 11 at Jasper with a 7 p.m. start time. The Mustangs are the fourth-place representative of District 12. They have a 5-5 overall record and a 2-3 conference mark.

The Timpson Bears finished with an 8-0 overall record and a 6-0 District 11 2A record. Timpson took the conference title and now will face the Frankston Indians at the Jacksonville Tomato Bowl on Thursday, November 11 at 7 p.m. Frankston is the fourth-place representative of District 9. They finished with a 5-5 overall mark and a 3-3 conference mark.
